Display artist/maker:

Geoffrey Fuller

Born: 1936, UK, England, Derbyshire, Chesterfield

Ceramicist. Initially he worked as a librarian but in his thirties had a career change and trained in ceramics at Farnham School of Art (1966-1969). He became technical assistant there before going on to teach at Chesterfield College of Art. At first he was attracted to salt glaze pottery but became interested in slipware after being inspired by a Middle Eastern dish he saw at the Victoria and Albert Museum. He is known for his figure groups whose form and character evoke 18th and 19th century Staffordshire pew groups and flatbacks with characters based on classical mythology, biblical figures and English folklore. He also makes functional slipware which he displays in the pub he runs with his wife in Derbyshire
