Painter. Son of a railwayman who moved to Neath circa 1915. Studied part-time at Swansea School of Art, 1928-32. Served as an RAF technician in the Second World War. Working in Neath for the rest of his life, he combined his art with running a business as a jeweller and watchmaker until retirement. He was a friend of Josef Herman (1911-2000) and was a founder member of the 56 Group Wales but resigned from the Group in 1966. In 1962 he won the Byng Stamper Prize, awarded by Sir Kenneth Clark, for his landscape 'The Farm at Cimla' now in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. He painted expressive studies of the people, particularly farmers, and landscapes of South Wales, usually with subdued earth colours
