Evan John Walters

Born: 1893, UK, Wales, Swansea, Mynydd-bach   Died: 1951, London

Painter. Brought up in Llangyfelach near Swansea. Studied at Swansea School of Art, 1910-13, and the Royal Academy, 1914-15. Emigrated briefly to America where he served as a camouflage painter in the First World War, 1916-18. Patronised by Mrs Winifred Coombe Tennant of Cadoxton, Neath. He painted landscapes and portraits of miners and politicians, the latter including sitters such as Ramsay MacDonald, Lloyd George and Lord Balfour. After 1936 he experimented with multiple and peripheral vision effects
