One of six works by the artist commissioned by the Welsh Arts Council for the exhibition 'The Fall' which opened at the Oriel in April 1976 and toured to Bangor Art Gallery, the Museum and Art Gallery, Newport and the Glynn Vivian Museum and Art Gallery, Swansea. The artists commissioned for 'The Fall' - Mervyn Baldwin, Paul Bowen, Ian Grainger, Will Lorimer, Chris Orr and Gwyn Watkins - were challenged to provide a series of illustrations to specific biblical passages relating to the story of Adam and Eve
The Fall No.2.
Kneeling nude red-haired woman / Eve from the Bible, looking to the forbidden fruit she has picked falling from her hand to a nude black-haired man / Adam’s hand who kneels behind her. A coiled snake / serpent wraps itself around Eve’s arm and both figures’ legs. By her hand, placed above the snake’s head (which looks down to a small caterpillar), a flowering bush begins to die and under Adams foot there is the artist signature?. Black out line drawing coloured with blue and red tones, the dark thin strip of sky from ‘The Fall No.1’ has expanded further down the image.
