Self portrait with his pupil Luigi Cochetti. The robed Zauli, seated on the right, places his feet on a dais, holds an unfurled scroll in his left hand and a compass in his right hand. To his right is Tommaso Minardi, standing with right arm akimbo and wearing a hat and long jacket, who places his left hand on Cochetti's shoulder and holds paint brushes in his right hand. Behind the artists is a large easel.
