Sculpture / S23 Arch. John Williams of Cardigan1858 Plaster mm. John Williams, Archdeacon of Cardigan (1792-1858) was born in Ystrad Meurig, Cardiganshire. He studied in Ludlow and Oxford, and taught in Chiswick, Winchester and Hyde Abbey School. He took a religious position in Lampeter in 1820, and although he was not chosen first principal of St. David's College, the school prospered in his presence and attracted students from as far as Scotland. From 1848-1853 Williams was first warden of Llandovery College. He died in Bushey, Hertfordshire in 1858. |
