John Griffith, journalist (1821-1877). In 1847 Griffith was appointed secretary to Sir Hugh Owen, with whom he worked for two years. During this time he gained many connections with prominent Liberals which later influenced his journalist work for the 'Cronicl,' published by his uncle Samuel Roberts. He soon earned himself a position as London correspondent to the 'Baner Cymru' and the pseudonym 'Y Gohebydd' (The Correspondent.) He was the most prominent correspondent of the time in Wales, and also one of the first members of the Council of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. Griffith died 13th December 1877 in Liverpool, and was buried in Llangollen.
