Part of a set of 12 lithographs, representing the months of the year, combining contemporary work by Luigi G. Mattei (b.1945) with seventeenth century engravings by Guiseppe Maria Mitelli (1634-1718). Developed from an idea by Giancarlo Roversi. From an edition of 299 sets. The prints are contained in a portfolio with an introduction, descriptive notes and a short biography of Guiseppe Maria Mitelli, all in Italian
A man crushing grapes; Mattei and Mitelli, September. On the upper margin is a small reproduction of an engraving by Mitelli of a male grape harvester. His right leg crushes grapes in a bucket. He holds a hoe? in his right hand and eats grapes lowered to his mouth from a raised left hand. A set of scales, representing Libra, are enclosed in a small circle. The upper three quarters of this engraving is again reproduced, much larger, at the bottom of the paper. In the centre is a drawing by Mattei of a girls face with grapes and vine leaves in her hair. It is enclosed in a brown oval. Text on the image, 'SETTEMBRE', twice
