Part of a set of 12 lithographs, representing the months of the year, combining contemporary work by Luigi G. Mattei (b.1945) with seventeenth century engravings by Guiseppe Maria Mitelli (1634-1718). Developed from an idea by Giancarlo Roversi. From an edition of 299 sets. The prints are contained in a portfolio with an introduction, descriptive notes and a short biography of Guiseppe Maria Mitelli, all in Italian
Figure drinking and a head with a halo; Mattei and Mitelli, August. At the top is a small drawing by Mattei of a grotesque head, a halo, a grill and a night sky with stars and comets. Below is a reproduced engraving by Mitelli of a seated man drinking from a flask. He wears a plumed hat and a net bag, containing small birds, around his waist. Around him is a knife and four cantaloupes, one of which has been opened. An angel, representing Virgo, is enclosed in a small circle. Text on image, 'AGOSTO' and '1691 IN BOLOGNA G.M.L.[?]E.F', the latter appears on the flask
