Part of a set of 12 lithographs, representing the months of the year, combining contemporary work by Luigi G. Mattei (b.1945) with seventeenth century engravings by Guiseppe Maria Mitelli (1634-1718). Developed from an idea by Giancarlo Roversi. From an edition of 299 sets. The prints are contained in a portfolio with an introduction, descriptive notes and a short biography of Guiseppe Maria Mitelli, all in Italian
Man carrying objects; Mattei and Mitelli, March. On the lower margin are two figures drawn by Mattei. One figure is seated and one standing. Both figures are semi-nude with large stomachs, large feet, cloaks and helmets. Above is a reproduced engraving by Mitelli of a peasant man wearing a large floppy hat, a cloak and nether hose. He carries a basket of leeks, a string of onions, a box with a candle inside, a corn on the cob? and a pole with a flag depicting two towers. A ram, representing Aires, is enclosed in a circle in the upper right corner. Text on image, 'MARZO' and 'W BOLOGNA', the latter is on the flag
