The works title is explained in a letter from Eric Malthouse to David Tinker dated 03/03/1969; ''Both prints are related to paintings. 'Facade' to that of the same name, a painting 6ft x 7ft exhibited in Arts C. couple of years ago. ....'Facade for Lang Vei' is a personal and public title. It was my painting of the year at the time when I also produced the 24' x 8' cut paper 'backcloth' for the Cardiff production of Sitwell's 'Facade'.....It was also at this time that the USA made one of their first mistake bombings. The South Vietnam village Lang Vei was raised to the ground in mistake for Vietcong. Subsequently Lang Vei has recently been in the news as the first village liberated by the Vietcong or NLF in the TET offensive. My titles are thus titles of identification.''
