Fourth (final) state. From an edition of 56. Approximately 66 impressions of all states. Though the inscription says 3rd state it is actually the 4th state. To quote Cooke ''The impression illustrated in Tassi is inscribed ''Arundel 3rd state'', however it is in the final state. A proof in the British Museum, inscribed by the artist '3rd state', lacks the shading in the centre of the tree's foliage at the upper platemark, which appears to be the difference between third and fourth states''. Plate 5 'Graham Sutherland: Early Etchings', Gordon Cooke, 1993. This work was inspired by Rembrandt
