153 x 101 mm. Gift: The artist, through Paul Croft, from 'Stone-Plate-Grease-Water' exhibition 2008
This print was shown in 'Stone-Plate-Grease-Water', an AHRC-funded exhibition of international contemporary lithography that explored the nature and diversity of current lithographic practice. The show included 90 prints by 64 artists from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, Argentina and Jordan, and was accompanied by a catalogue and website (www.spgw.co.uk). At the end of the tour, artists who participated were invited to donate their work to the School of Art Collection
An ornate mirror hangs on the wall in front of a table with a fish bowl on top of it in the corner of the room. A naked woman is submerged in the mirror up to her waist and she has arms outstretched as though she has jumped through from the other side of the mirror. Her lower half is insect-like and striped like a wasp and remains on the other side of the mirror. The mirror displays a surreal scene with unusual buildings and unusual animals such as flying cats, walking fish, spiked birds etc. The inside of the mirror is black and white whereas the room is in colour.
