Smith captures the impressive scene as the text portrays it. The clouds have receded and the sunlight catches the open planes, whilst the deep cracks are thrown into darkness and for Sotheby, 'the fair face of heaven and earth appears'

Dust-ground aquatint with etching and sepia watercolour wash. No evident plate mark. The paper has a watermark which reads 'J.WHATMAN'
