Book illustration from William Sotheby's 'Tour through parts of Wales' of 1794. In a separate poem, Sotheby depicts the change of a small but typically Welsh town near Wrexham throughout the seasons. The town is dominated by its surroundings, an aspect Smith seems to capture. The emphasis is on the natural features, concentrating on the coming of winter, 'Woods whose free growth the gloom of midnight spreads, and torrents foaming down their flinty beds'
Topographical view of Llangollen; foreground, bushes and a tree, middleground, town with church, houses and a bridge over a river; background valley with mouintains. Dust-ground aquatint with etching and sepia watercolour wash. No evident plate mark
