In the foreground, on the left, two male farm labourers (one seated) and two milk maids (one carrying a two-handled jug on her head and standing with left arm akimbo) converse by a dead tree. To the right are rocks and five pigs including three piglets. Behind is a large two storey barn, with hay loft, of stone construction faced with plaster and topped with a tiled roof with gable ends. The farm building is partly dilapidated and overgrown. In the centre a maid enters the tall arched doorway carrying a vessel on her head. On the far right is another female farm worker entering another part of the building. Above is a steep slopewith sporadic small trees. Sky left largely unworked except for cloud outlines, Engraved in fine detail with dense hatching and cross hatching in drypoint to create rich tones. Paper has the watermark 'DAVID STRANG'
