Prints / PR1595 Portrait of Berthe Morisot
1892 Drypoint in black on white laid paper mounted on brown card 114 x 95 mm. Loan: Gregynog, Davies sisters 1989 Berthe Morisot was a close friend of Renoir's who became guardian to her daughter when she died in 1895. He frequently joined her in her studio where they painted together and shared models. This print is inscribed with the name 'Théodore Duret', the politician and journalist who was a collector, critic and friend of Manet, Morisot and the Impressionists. His 'Histoire des Peintres Impressionnistes' was published in Paris in 1906. The inscription could suggest that this print was once in Duret's possession show object description |
