Proof. Second, (final) state. This particular print pre-dates the publication of an edition of 25 published, in the same state, by the Chenil Gallery in 1906. Ursula Tyrwhitt, born in Nazeing, Essex, was John's first girlfriend and a fellow student of his sister Gwen, and his first wife Ida, at the Slade. She went with Gwen John to study at the Atelier Colarossi in Paris - and for many years after their return to England they regularly corresponded. She was a member of the New England Art Club where she exhibited flower paintings
