Doyle's 'Bird's-Eye Views of Society'- series consists of sixteen images which were published in Cornhill Magazine between April 1861 and October 1862. Doyle wrote humorous articles to accompany each image.
View of a large unadorned room. Cigar smoke billows above the heads of the gentlemen who are casually lounging on the sofas and armchairs, talking, smoking or resting. Two waiters are attending them serving drinks. One gentleman is seen leaving the room trough a door in the rear wall. Doyle's initials are in the lower left-hand corner, the Dalziel signature in the lower right-hand corner. The paper is yellowed with age and has two folds.
