Doyle's 'Bird's-Eye Views of Society'- series consists of sixteen images which were published in Cornhill Magazine between April 1861 and October 1862. Doyle wrote humorous articles to accompany each image.
View of a park avenue crowded with pedestrians. To the left, divided by a fence against which people are leaning, is the equally busy horse-riding lane. To the right, divided by a row of trees and a fence on which men are sitting, is a lawn on which groups of people are resting. The ladies and gentlemen are dressed in their Sunday best, apart from two ragged street urchins tumbling in the lower right-hand corner. The engraver's signature is in the lower right-hand corner. The paper is yellowed with age and has two folds.
