Doyle's 'Bird's-Eye Views of Society'- series consists of sixteen images which were published in Cornhill Magazine between April 1861 and October 1862. Doyle wrote humorous articles to accompany each image.
Outdoor scene of a fashionable part of central London. To the right-hand side receding into the distance, a row of houses with balconies above the main entrances. Gentlemen are standing on some of the porches observing the busy street. Adults and children are horse-riding or travelling in carriages on the street. Ladies are taking a walk and children are playing in a fenced-in park on the right-hand side. Doyle's initials and 'dicky' bird are at the lower part of the left margin, the Dalziel signature is in the right-hand corner. The paper is yellowed with age, has some staining and two folds.
