Doyle's 'Bird's-Eye Views of Society'- series consists of sixteen images which were published in Cornhill Magazine between April 1861 and October 1862. Doyle wrote humorous articles to accompany each image.
Music hall interior with the stage to the left crowed with gentlemen. A catwalk leads from the stage across the auditorium. An acrobatic performer is in mid-flight between too trapeze above the catwalk. The audience is seated at small tables at the auditorium or standing on the balconies at the back. A band is playing in front of the catwalk to the right. The engraver's signature is in the lower left-hand corner, Doyle's initials and 'dicky' bird in the lower right-hand corner. The paper is yellowed with age, has some staining and has two folds.
