Doyle's 'Bird's-Eye Views of Society'- series consists of sixteen images which were published in Cornhill Magazine between April 1861 and October 1862. Doyle wrote humorous articles to accompany each image.
View of the inside of a large tent with a crowd of adults and children of all ages mingling between sales stalls. Suspended flags decorate the walls on both sides and the pole in the centre of the tent. A brass band plays at the back outside the tent, framed by trees. The figures in the background are less detailed. The engravers' signature is almost in the middle of the lower margin, Doyle's initials are in the right-hand corner. The paper is yellowed with age and has two folds.
