The Silver Cord

A nondescript room with a large, ornate mirror hanging on the rear wall. At the centre, a man and a woman stand next to and look angrily at each other. The man is trying to grab the woman's hand. He is tall, middle-aged with grey, receding, wavy hair and large mutton chops. He is dressed in a chequered three-piece suit and bow tie. The woman has dark hair that hangs loosely in curls at the front and is pinned-up at the back of her head. She wears a crinoline dress and is looking aggressively at the man whilst trying to turn away from him. Behind her sits a woman with fair hair dressed in a similar dress. She is covering her face with both hands. The engraver's signature is in the lower right corner.
