One of 34 photographs included in the hand-made album 'Dick's Book of Photos'. The album records an idyllic summer on the beach at Pagham on the eve of war. Vaughan dedicated the album to his brother, Richard, who was killed in action in 1940. The dancers are David Lichine 1910-1972 and Tamara Toumanova 1917-1997 (who was one of the three 'baby ballerinas' of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo). The scenery and costumes were designed by Pablo Picasso for the first performance of 'Le Tricorne' in 1919. 'Le Tricorne' was performed by the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo at the Royal Opera House in July 1935. There may have been later performances. From the same negative as PH318
