Reverend Dr William Rees (Gwilym Hiraethog) (1802-1883) was an Independent minister who campaigned for the disestablishment of the Church of Wales. He was the founder and first editor of the Welsh newspaper 'Yr Amserau'. He was self educated and wrote novels, plays, poetry and hymns
