Thomas Charles Edwards (1837-1900) was a Calvinistic Methodist minister and preacher. He was appointed as the first Principal of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, a post he held from 1872 to 1891 before becoming Principal at Bala College, a college established by his father, Lewis Edwards, in 1837. He has long sideburns, a receding hairline, wears round spectacles and looks towards the viewer with a faint smile. Dark background creates a chiaroscuro effect
