Born: 1911, Poland, Warsaw   Died: 2000, London

Painter and printmaker. Son of a Jewish cobbler. Studied at Warsaw College of Art, 1930-31. He fled Poland in 1938 living in Brussels, Glasgow, London and Ystradgynlais in South Wales, the latter between 1944 and 1953, before settling in London. He collected miniature African tribal figures, an art form which influenced his depictions of working men, particularly Welsh miners.
