Born and brought up in Staffordshire, Kate Hammersley studied Art and Art History at The University of Wales, School of Art, Aberystwyth gaining First Class Honours before completing a Masters Degree in 1996.
Early work is concerned with the study of rural landscapes and micro climates based on detailed observational drawings and memory. Kate Hammersley's recent paintings and constructions are influenced by her employment as a Museum Assistant on the University Art Collection. They focus on one species, either real or fictional and often assume human, insect or birdlike qualities reflecting her fascination with the relationships between species.
