CollectionsThe School of Art Gallery & Museum, and School of Art Collections collect, document, preserve, and interpret fine and decorative art. Both serve to develop and promote the School’s substantial collection of artefacts as an important source of primary source material for research by art institutions, internal and external scholars. The superb collection comprises over 14,000 items which are unique in Wales and of international importance; featuring European prints from 15th to 21st century, drawings, watercolours, art in Wales since 1945, contemporary British printmaking and Welsh photography, and an outstanding collection of post-war Italian photographs. It also includes nearly 1,500 studio ceramics representing British, European, American, and Japanese studio pottery. The strength of the Ceramics Collection is undoubtedly its internationally renowned collection of early 20th-century British pioneer studio pottery. The Gallery and Museum stages touring exhibitions derived from the collection and featuring invited artists, many of which are accompanied by catalogues published by the School of Art Press. It has also collaborated with private galleries and national institutions. The School of Art Gallery and Museum is an official registered museum. The Collection continues to strengthen and develop.
